Pumping station for flood protection, Lorsch
A pumping station protects the town of Lorsch from flooding. To prevent the municipal sewer network from being overloaded during heavy rainfall, the plant pumps excess mixed water into the River Weschnitz, which is located higher up. In order to meet current requirements, the 50-year-old pumping station with three decades-old electrical engineering was replaced by a new building that incorporates the old pumping station building.
The clinker surfaces in the area of the collecting channels, which are subject to very high loads, posed a particular challenge. Up to 4,500 liters of water per second have to be safely drained away via the surfaces. No easy task for a mineral mortar.
The quick-mix STB Civil Engineering Mortar XWW4 is designed precisely for this purpose. Thanks to the innovative and patented SECON® binder technology, the quick-mix STB Civil Engineering Mortar XWW4 meets the very high requirements of exposure class XWW4 in accordance with DIN 19573. It offers very high resistance to biogenic sulphuric acid corrosion and sulphate attack. The high impermeability of the joint is achieved through excellent flank adhesion and a particularly favorable grain gradation of the aggregate. Our strong and durable solution for flood protection.
